from Rob Brezsny for us Saggies:
One of your top accomplishments in 2009 is the way you have united parts of yourself that had not previously been very well connected. It seems you decided that you were tired of being split up into fragmented sub-personalities that had different agendas. Somehow you managed to convince them all to work together in a common cause. Now I'm quite impressed with the new spirit of cooperation that's at work in your depths. I predict it will lead to an unprecedented singleness of purpose in 2010.
* SACRED ADVERTISEMENT Rainer Maria Rilke: "For one human being to love another is the most difficult task of all. It’s the work for which all other work is mere preparation." Teilhard de Chardin: "Someday after we have mastered the winds, the waves, and gravity, we will harness for God the energies of love; and then for a second time in the history of the world, human beings will have discovered fire." Leo Tolstoy: "Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love." Blaise Pascal: "If you do not love too much, you do not love enough." Emily Dickinson: "Until you have loved, you cannot become yourself." * The preceding oracle comes from my new book, PRONOIA Is the Antidote for Paranoia: How the Whole World Is Conspiring to Shower You with Blessings. To hear podcasts of stuff drawn from the book, go here.

i got my hairs all done today - i went to my hair colorist who is an intern for only 2 more weeks, she did a phenominal job on the hair color - red w/highlights. while in the chair, i read Elle magazine and found a really interesting advice column in which the topic was women and "bad boys". the columnist referenced an article in the NYT which i searched for and found so i am pasting it here to be able to find again. its about the brain and stress.
"As though it weren’t bad enough that chronic stress has been shown to raise blood pressure, stiffen arteries, suppress the immune system, heighten the risk of diabetes, depression and Alzheimer’s disease and make one a very undesirable dinner companion, now researchers have discovered that the sensation of being highly stressed can rewire the brain in ways that promote its sinister persistence."

12:25 am - Honey Roasted Butternut Squash with Apples & Pecans
|
Honey Roasted Butternut Squash with Apples & Pecans (Serves 5)
1 lb. Butternut squash, cubed 1 medium baking apple, peeled, cored and cubed 3 Tbsp. butter, melted 3 Tbsp. honey 1/4 cup pecans, finely chopped 1/2 tsp. EACH of nutmeg and cinnamon
Preheat over to 400 degrees. Place cubed squash and apple in a 8” x 8” baking dish. Add 2 tablesppons water and roast uncovered, stirring occasionally for 20 minutes, or until almost cooked through. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine next five ingredients. Remove squash from oven, and pour honey mix over squash. Stir lightly to coat. Return to the over for another 10 minutes, or until cooked through. Remove from oven and serve.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ notes: i bought the butternut squash at Costco in the produce walk-in fridge section - a package is 2 lbs of washed and ready to use squash (no preservatives), so i doubled the recipe. i substituted walnuts for the pecans because i had some organic walnuts at home already. For the spices (doubled recipe), i used 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg and about 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice. i'm not sure what variety of apples i used, they were from a friend's apple trees, but they were a bit more on the tart side like a granny smith or pippin. i used Organic Valley European Style Cultured Organic Butter (wow that butter is good) and French Acacia Honey.
Night View of an Ancient Amphitheater
Planet Jupiter joins this stunning view of the Milky Way central part above Aphrodisias, an ancient city named after Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, and the equivalent of Venus. Today it is located about 30 km from Denizli in the western Turkey. Photo by Tunc Tezel
